I went out to dinner here, and it was quite possibly the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. The food wasn’t just bad, it was a legitimate health hazard.

Everything on the buffet was so old that it was hard enough to chip your teeth. Even the okra, which I didn’t even know was possible. We tried to order entrees instead, but they had no hamburger meat, no rice, no gravy, no ice cream, etc. We finally did get some food ordered, but what we received was missing side items and sauces that they failed to mention they also didn’t have. The worst part is that what little food we did received was undercooked and spoiled. How can you serve “steamed broccoli” that’s not just cold, but has turned black?? I feel sick to my stomach, and have reported this location to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

I’m thankful that the wait staff was kind and apologetic, but management was extremely antagonistic. She refused to believe our concerns about the food, even when it was sitting on the table half rotten. As a Canadian this is my first experience with Shoney’s, and even though I’ve heard great things about it, it will unfortunately be my last. I didn’t even get to try the famous fudge cake :(

The food was good came during breakfast/brunch time on a Sunday morning. Greeted up entry and sat quickly at our table. We were approached almost immediately by our waitress and she was consistent with checking in and ensuring we had what we needed or wanted throughout the visit.

We were seated in a plain area that was supposed to be an atrium, although there were many empty seats in the main dining area. The breakfast buffet was lacking several items. Not sure we'll return.

We were there at noon and had the buffet. Maybe there was 15 people eating. There were breakfast items and lunch items with a small salad selection and a small dessert selection. We had 2 breakfasts and 1 coke and 1 water. The service was poor. My coke was empty and never refilled. The waitress couldn't be bothered. The food was hot, fresh, and tasty. The bill was almost 40 dollars. It's not the cost of the meal, it's the level of service and the attitude of the waitress. I would not recommend this place.

By far one of the worst experiences we have had at a restaurant. We all got our food at different times, waited an hour for my child's spaghetti after we had already received our food 25 minutes prior. Had to ask another waitress for refills after our cups had sat empty for 15 minutes. Asked for food a certain way, and was told they couldn't do it that way even though afterwards when we were finished,we were told we could. Do not recommend coming here unless they can get on the same page with each other to fix all of these issues. We asked for a discount for all the trouble and was only allowed to get $5 off. $60 was definitely not worth what we went through.

We must have come at a really bad time. We have never been here, but I doubt we will ever come back, at least not any time soon.

As we were sitting down, another server asked our server if she had told us about the buffet. She laughed a little and said no. I figured she meant telling us how it worked or something. We did order the buffet and when we walked up there, there was hardly anything at all. Most of the pans were scraped clean and it looked like they had been sitting there for awhile. The floor was so sticky that my flip flop got stuck. Just overall kind of unclean. I was still willing to give it a chance though, because I knew they would probably replenish things. One of the guys that works there made a comment about a large party before us taking all the food. The thing is, our food was ice cold. All of it. The corn was rock hard. This food was not to temp because it had been sitting there and wasn’t fresh at all. Maybe an hour or more. It was not just depleted because of a large party. Especially on a Saturday, when it’s usually busy. My husband and I sat there for a minute after we tried our food, wondering if we should leave. We did get up and tell the lady at the front that we were leaving, and explained the situation. She said the manager had to approve us leaving. Which was odd, but I was okay with waiting to speak with them. Except they never came up to talk to us.

The employees were nice, but they should have maybe advised customers that the buffet wasn’t fully stocked. I probably would have ordered off the menu if I knew that. I hate to leave bad reviews, but this was such a disappointing experience. The fact that food is being allowed to be served at a buffet when it’s ice cold, not okay.

We had a nice time. The food was okay. We did eight from the bar we ordered our meal from the menu. Everybody was really nice however our waitr might have been knew and could use a little bit more practice.

I haven't been to Shoney's in 20 years. I must say if this is what they have become I won't be back. My wife ordered the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich. To say it was bland was an understatement. No seasoning. No kind of sauce. Nothing. Meat was bland and not cooked properly. The bun was saturated beyond belief with oil. Fries were hot but again no SEASONING. I ordered the 3 egg omelet. Same problem, no flavor. The bacon and sausage were over cooked and again saturated with oil. The spinach(only item inside the omelet) was old. Very unsatisfied with our meals. I ordered a banana ???? split Sundae. They had no bananas. They put the fudge between layers of ice cream rather than at the bottom. The caramel tasted odd. Like it was old. We were the only people in the restaurant. No kidding. When I wanted to order my sundae I had to get up and walk around to find someone. The manager was in and out of the store several times. The rest of the staff stayed in the back area near the kitchen. It took 15 minutes to get a simple sundae. Server kept walking back and forth in the kitchen from the sundae to the middle of the kitchen and back. I should have told my wife to come on and turned around and left when we walked in the door. The one thing I did see the manager take time out of her personal trips to her vehicle and outside was to add WATER to the food on the buffet bar. It looked like warmed over food for weeks, not days old. I truly don't believe the food was safe to eat from the bar. After she emptied a coffee pot of water into some kind of sauce and stirred it I got up to look. Health and food safety is not a priority at this Shoney's. My wife had never been to one. I can assure you she won't ever go back. The bathrooms need a Major deep clean. With all the staff and MANAGER standing around you would think they would take time to clean them. I am sooo disappointed. A waste of my time, a waste of money($40) and highly disappointed in a restaurant chain that I frequented weekly in my younger days. Upper management needs to get a grip on this location. Today's actions explain the empty parking lot.
