Ours was a fantastic experience at Mama's on our stopover in Mobile, en route to New Orleans! Great food, nice service, interesting downtown location, and friendly prices. The fish and black eyed peas were excellent. The okra came fresh out of the fryer. Marshall Barstow, the owner, was extremely kind to share some of his stories (and a generous sampling of free sausages) with us ???? Memorable!

This lunch cafe is charming. The food was good and reasonably fast. Service was great despite a new busboy. Several things were forgot. We were also served a burnt corn bread. Everything was fixed very quickly.

We started with fried green tomatoes and ranch. The tomatoes were heavily breaded, but tasted well. It paired well with the horseradish ranch sauce.

The fried chicken was very good. The chicken and dumplings were the winner of the dinner. The tomato and cucumber salad and the black eyed were excellent. The squash casserole had cheese in it. I was not expecting that. Wife’s okra were ok some were a little over cooked.

A great place to grab an affordable (and filling) lunch! My party of 4 arrived just after 11:00 and the place was almost empty, by noon it was almost completely full! We started with an appetizer of fried green tomatoes and ranch, which were very lightly breaded and absolutely delicious! We then ordered the daily special of chicken & dumplings, which was like having a hug in a bowl! It tasted just like grandma used to make! My husband ordered the hot momma’s chicken which was perfectly fried chicken that was tossed in buffalo sauce. The sides were just ok. My husband had the cabbage, which was delicious and flavorful, but we found the mac & cheese to be a little on the bland side. We were excited to order the squash casserole as it was recommended by our waitress, but all 3 of us found it bitter and inedible. It literally tasted like the squash was cooked in vinegar…very odd, but since we had plenty of food we didn’t say anything to our waitress. We ended the meal by sharing some delicious banana pudding. On the way out we noticed another diner with a bowl full of squash casserole and asked if it tasted bitter to her as well. She agreed completely and was glad to know that she wasn’t alone thinking so. I think this must’ve been a fluke in the recipe this day. Overall, we had a great meal in a beautiful little restaurant downtown that didn’t break the bank, and we will be back…I just wish they were open for dinner!
Photos of fried green tomatoes and chicken & dumplings- both of which I recommend!

Good home cookin’ meat and three type place. Meatloaf was as good as homemade. Fried chicken was moist on the inside and crunchy outside. Fried okra, greens and squash casserole hit the spot. Go hungry and wear buffet pants because you’ll pop a button if you clean your plate!

We came here for a work lunch and had a great experience. I would suggest getting there early if you have more than 4 people.

The food (meat & 3) was great and service was fast & responsive. Expect about $13-15 per person.

A+ would recommend.

Literally the Hot Mama chicken was some of the best fried chicken I've ever had. Perfectly cooked and very well seasoned, spicy but not on the end of making it hard or uncomfortable to eat.

Service wasnt great. I dont know if there was a shift change or something, but our waitress wasnt serving us after taking orders and there was a long period where we just were not checked on. Salad came out without dressing and refills on water were not existent.

Great food and friendly staff, but not very attentive.
