Excellent BBQ. My personal favorite and regular order is:
???? 2 Mayo Slaw Dogs
???? Lg. BBQ Pork Sandwich
And BBQ chips. Yummy! They have the standard sweet or hot BBQ sauces, as well as the white sauce. They have a couple of picnic tables under a tree for outdoor eating. Indoor eating is confined to about four or 5 floor mounted barstools. Dining-in and waiting on your order can get hot ???? around the July months. I have broke a sweat waiting on the food, but it is always worth it to me. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Parking is a small gravel parking lot out front. Note: I realize BBQ taste is subjective. The ribs tend to be too salty for my taste, yet loved by many.

The location is great for people living near the Maysville Four-way Stop and just down the road from Cooper Estates and Maysville Estates (two beautiful and safe neighborhoods), Give it a try! And if you mention 'Ray' sent you ...

This is a cool little mom and pop place well worth the trip. I'll definitely going back and the peanut butter pudding is amazing

I discovered this through a small mention in a book called Extreme BBQ and realized we lived close to Mary's after moving to Scottsboro Al. We had a smile on our face when we saw the place. True, honest bbq. Prices were fair, service was fantastic. All the sides we got were great(mac & cheese, green beans, mayo slaw, vinegar slaw and baked beans is what we got). It's hard to choose between the slaws, because they are both awesome! But the star of the show were the ribs. They were perfect. I didn't need any dental floss and they weren't fall apart mush either. The sauces are all great. We'll make stopping here a tradition when going to Huntsville!

Small hometown favorite. Delicious BBQ and sides. Been visiting Mary's since I was a kid. Great place to take out. The are only maybe 5 to 6 old school bar seats for sitting. Not a large place to comfortably dine in.

Barbecue restaurants are omnipresent in many areas of the Southeastern U.S. Some are chains; some are new and modern; some are old but have a unique charm.

Mary's Pit BBQ is not a chain. It looks much like it probably did when it opened 63 years ago. It is like stepping back in time.

It is in a rural area outside of Huntsville, Alabama. It appears to be in Ryland, Alabama but the GPS says it is in Gurley, Alabama. There is a big sign in front of the building that is hard to miss. The road is two lanes without a lot of traffic.

Admittedly, I favor BBQ restaurants with an ambiance like this one.

The parking lot is not marked but just a gravel space around the building. People park where they can.

It is informal. The menu is on chalkboards. A customer places an order and waits for it to come up. There are a few wooden stools in the area for eating or there are picnic tables outside. Many customers eat in their car or take it home.

The pork BBQ is not expensive. I ordered a side of banana pudding and a diet Dr. Pepper to go with it. My dining companion had a 1/2 pound of BBQ and iced tea with peanut butter pudding. The entire bill with tax was about $18.00

Service is friendly and customers that come in speak to others with a smile and an open willingness to speak.

Dining under the large trees surrounding the property on a sunny, warm day is a delight. When eating my sandwich, there were numerous birds chirping away in the huge trees.

When in the area, employ your GPS and take a drive to Mary's for a real BBQ pork plate or sandwich.

I have tried every single bbq place in Madison county. This is not only the best bbq I have had in North Alabama, but the best bbq I have had period. This is the best kept secret in North Alabama by far. I will drive from Village of Providence in Huntsville to Gurley every single time I want bbq now because there is no competition for Mary's. Customer service was amazing, the food was melt in your mouth good, huge portions, and the prices are more than reasonable. If you haven't had the pleasure of eating at Mary's then you are missing out

I have more than a passing bit of interest in BBQ. Since moving to Huntsville, the BBQ restaurant experience has been underwhelming at best. I've heard of Mary's Pit BBQ on local social media but haven't taken the back road adventure time to try and find it. My wife and I were out today looking for yard sales and I saw this place pop up on GPS right around noon and I knew it was a sign. Of course we stopped! I knew it was about to get real real when I saw the screen door. I ordered a large pork sandwich "all the way" which included what seemed like two entire shoulders worth of the most perfectly pulled pork I've ever seen, vinegar slaw, pickles, and hot BBQ sauce. There was just enough slaw and sauce to know it was there, but the star of this show was the meat. Not too smoky, tender, and taken off the pit at the exact temp window to produce that absolutely perfect pulled texture that is what I strive for with every cook I've ever done. After eating, I had to talk with the cook, and could immediately tell that she not only loves what she does, but she loves BBQ in a way that very few people I've ever met do. She even gave us sample cups of their banana pudding and peanut butter pudding - I didn't even know it was a thing, but it was delicious! No pics of the food, but if you're ever in the Gurley area in the northeastern part of Madison County, Alabama and want some BBQ that will feed your soul as well as your body, you have to go to Mary's Pit BBQ.

Saw a story on my phone about Mary's and had to try didn't disappoint. Sandwiches are big, and for the bigger appetite the have large size ones. Also the chili dogs are an old school treat.
