This is not a building but a metal framework covered with canvas on the top and facing the road. There are only large concrete blocks to sit on, which are very uncomfortable for anyone, but most particularly for older people or for those unable to stand for more than a few minutes. The closest restrooms are across the highway about 100 yards away. The train only goes to Whittier from May to September, so the canvas is adequate only for days without inclement weather.

Not so much a “depot” as a tent set up along the tracks, but I have no complaints! I can see how this would make things difficult if you arrive for a cruise on a rainy day, but otherwise, the train drops you off in very close proximity to the cruise terminal. You can walk across the street and drop off your luggage before walking into the town of Whittier to explore.

Alaska Railroad!! We went to Whittier, Alaska. The fresh halibut in Whittier is to die for!! Great family fun! Check out the hummingbird feedings set up along the walkway above the dock. Whittier is a friendly, clean town... Boating on the ocean this day!!!

Scenic train ride but too much naration. Quiet would have been nice.

This place is a long tent, so don’t think it’s a brick building. No one is here, buy your tickets on the train. Close to the cruise ship terminal, they’ll let you stand in there if it’s raining.
