When you have very few choices:
...This is where you go.
It was a simple mission, go to the deli and buy a meal deal (Rotisserie chicken, 2 sides, rolls, a drink. $12.99)
The second I walked up, I saw felt sorry for the young girl that was helping me, she had 2 food city veterans looking over her shoulder, one of them named "Laura". As the young girl began to weigh my sides, and print out stickers, it became clear that the $12.99 meal deal price was "out the window", so i took a picture of the big sign advertising it on the counter with my phone. while getting sides, they asked if i wanted gravy with my mashed potatoes, i said yes. Once everything was packaged and wrapped in plastic wrap, Laura ran up insisting that the young girl weigh and charge me extra for the gravy, after several minutes of watching her try to unwrap the gravy I said "please just keep your gravy" as i imagined the pain of "another item" added onto the $12.99 meal deal at check out.
my wife was already shopping for other groceries, but i knew checkout was going to be a pain so i decided to pay for this meal deal separately so it would be clear what was needed.
At checkout, indeed, the pricing added up to $30 something , again i felt sorry for the cashier and the people behind me in line. The cashier didn't know what to do and yelled for a manager within sight who ignored her for several minutes. eventually a store manager came over to assist. The cashier can only do what she can do, and tried explaining to me how everything "rung up"... but as a customer, who walks in, see's a $12.99 meal deal, expects to pay $12.99 plus tax... period. We don't care how it rings up in your system, your system is obviously broken.
Finally, your "veterans" like "Laura", obviously need some retraining. they have lost all customer service skills, and treat customers like trash, and definitely treated the young employee in the deli like trash.
The good news is we are often coming and going from Chattanooga, and have a choice for shopping elsewhere.
With that, I recommend shopping elsewhere. Yesterday I spent 45min of my life walking through food city BS that I will not get back.
