Wow, if you’re looking for a historic hotel with a big twist, you need to check this place out!
We never actually saw or knew of anyone running this hotel outside of text messages and a quick phone call but that didn’t seem to be a problem because we could use a code for the building and our key was ready for us in our door.
First- this building has been beautifully restored and updated throughout. The fixtures are nice and even the door hinges are beautifully cleaned and restored. While the bathrooms are shared between the visitors, there are separate male and female facilities with water pressure and bathing supplies that are top notch. The bed, bedding and pillows feel feathered and have a density that is easy to cozy up with, very comfortable. Snacks, muffins, coffee, teas, and waters are available as well.
So for the twist- each room is very uniquely decorated with antiques, collectibles, and pictures that inspire a different common fears or human experiences. I wasn’t able to go through all of them but did take pictures where I could and if you look closely at the pictures on the walls, one is definitely based on death or loneliness and I’m glad that wasn’t my room. Mine was based on a honeypot which housed pictures of promiscuous women possibly luring one in for a trap. Others focused on fears of commitment or being known.
lastly- I did hear boot-like footsteps that went from the stairs to the front of my door (6) in the middle of the night and did not see anyone else around.
Thanks for the fun stay, we will have to come back again someday.

The best hotel stay I’ve had. We visited for our wedding anniversary and to say we enjoyed our time would be an understatement. This place is unbelievably beautiful and luxurious. We felt welcomed instantly. The owners and staff go above and beyond to make sure every detail is exceptional. This isn’t just a hotel, it’s a destination. The town of Chester is lovely. It is small, but growing and improving. There are so many outdoor adventure options nearby. The cafe down the block has delicious home cooked food as well. The only problem we had is deciding which of the beautiful rooms to stay in next time. Thank you Beard and Lady for a wonderful experience.

This place is amazing! We got married in NW Arkansas and stayed here the night before with our wedding party and family. Everybody absolutely loved it! Each room is thoughtfully curated, and the inn is beautifully restored. Lacey was a fantastic host and made us feel right at home. Chester is a tiny town, which added to the charm of the place. There is an apothecary and shop inside of the inn, as well as a dining hall. Each room has a pre-stamped postcard for you to send at the post office next door during your stay. There is even a passenger train that comes by every now and then! Truly like something out of storybook. We are so grateful for their hospitality, and our stay at the Beard & Lady Inn made our wedding weekend even more special. We will certainly be back!

I didn't stay, but the hospitality of the owner was above and beyond. She showed me the rooms. The rooms were very creative yet simple enough to feel homey. I enjoyed talking with her and her brother as well. They are trying to have a 3 hr, scenic train make a stop here, which I would love to see. She also owns the apothecary next door, which she also gave me a tour of. They have a friendly murder mystery on Saturday, I believe. She gifted me a bottle of beard oil, as well as a cinnamon roll. I would love to stay here on my travels in Arkansas again. If one stayed here, it would be enjoyable one way or the other.

Upon arrival our expectations for this quiet out of the way old hotel were greatly surpassed! The owners have gone above and beyond in every detail. We don’t when we’ve ever been more comfortable and relaxed and will definitely return one day. A very peaceful and chill place to stay. Highly recommend!

The Inn is beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay there. The staff was very nice throughout our stay. We were able to rent out the entire place for five days and they were really good with changing out our towels as we did a lot of outdoor activities so the showers were used a lot. They had a bbq grill and a fire pit for us to use as we enjoyed outdoor activities the week we were there.

An unexpected treasure. Excellent communication pre/post arrival. My room was bright, clean, comfortable. The hosts and staff I met were helpful and so happy. Beautiful, peaceful setting. The Inn is an historical and educational gem.

I’m grateful to read that others have enjoyed this space. Unfortunately, it was not a great experience for my wife and me after a long drive and arriving mid-evening. There was nowhere to park except in a muddy field thanks to a “How to Host a Murder” party underway downstairs, which overwhelmed the space and was impossible to not be a part of, whether we wanted to or not. The walls of our room were quite thin; we could hear everything going on in nearby rooms, from our neighbors’ conversations to the sounds of their phones buzzing on “silent” — which we assumed meant they could hear everything we said or did, too. Twice after 11 pm, trains rolled by across the road with horns blasting so loud it felt as if they were roaring through our room. Finally, the space was cooled by a split HVAC device that was either on its last legs or needed maintenance — either way, it suffered from a loudly rattling compressor that would kick in and stir us about every 8-10 mins. By 2 am, we finally chose to turn the unit off and just sweat it out.
.
We had planned to stay two nights, but decided to eat the second night’s fee and found a room in Fayetteville, where we slept most of the next afternoon to make up for a largely sleepless night in Chester. We’re disappointed and obviously should have researched this location better. If you know ‘The Deal’ about the Beard and Lady beforehand, it could be a fun weekend getaway. It really wasn’t, though, for two road-weary travelers who were simply seeking some rest and the bare minimum of quiet. We do wish the owners well and harbor no ill will — we leave this here only for future travelers who may be expecting something beyond what this space’s particular “circa 1887” motif can provide.
