This was our first visit to the Freight House. Our server was very friendly and helpful with all questions. I do wish the menu had descriptions for some of the dishes so we wouldn't have to ask as many questions. My wife and I both had the smokey mountain chicken. It was very good, just not great. It is supposedly grilled. It must be cooked on a griddle because there were no grill marks. It also lacked the flavor you expect from grilled food. It needed a little smoke flavor. That said, it was good. My sweet potato casserole was very enjoyable. My wife's mashed potatoes, which according to our server are quite popular, was just okay to her. She says they weren't bad, but a little strange tasting. Her pasta salad was good but wasn't crazy about the Italian dressing. But the overall experience was good and we definitely plan to go try other things there.

Found this hidden gem by chance, absolutely loved the old train depot and decor. Even had a train fly by within feet of the building and barely felt it, a very unique experience. Had the French Dip Panini and home made chips which were excellent. Will be back next time in town.

I expected better. Fried catfish was good u003d seasoning in batter wanted, ground beef patty was good, Bake Potatoe Was not Done & my mom did not say anything, The turnip greens & Greenbeans very Bland Need seasoning, sadly food not great, just mediocre. Hush puppies tasted GOOD but almost too hard.

Ambience u003d almost too darku003d more lighting needed on front booths Used my Cell flashlight to read menu at lunch time.
I wanted hot sauce for veggies u003d y’all only had Tabasco.
I give atmosphere 5star since inside a Historic Train Depot.
Maybe y’all should offer complimentary cornbread muffins or something.

We came for Strawberry cake But y’all were out of THAT cake, so we tried Italian Cream cakeu003d very good, but not a reason to dine there.
We took our moms for lunch.

Just driving though town and we were hungry so when we went in they asked if we had a reservation? We did not but they found us a table. Just amazing country cooking. Everyone ordered something different and it was all amazing. The service was excellent. I now see why you would need a reservation.

Caitlin, sorry if I misspelled the name. She was a fantastic server. Even though I spilled my tea all over my food and myself, the experience was fabulous. The server never once made a big deal about the mess I made nor did the manager. This place is not only very professional but absolutely delicious! The fried pickles were PERFECT and finally found a place with good catfish and okra. Thank you Freight House!

Our party of four stopped at this awesome delightful restaurant on our drive back from Florida on the way to Kentucky. We saw a sign on the highway and it said the Freight House was a top 8 restaurant in Alabama. I have to say I was extremely pleased and pleasantly surprised with the food, staff, decor, location and all the neat pictures and antiques throughout the restaurant. We loved the train theme. Thank you all for a great experience.

Stopped here on a whim.
Best whim ever!
Our server was amazing(thanks for trying to card me, lol). She was super helpful, answered all our questions, let us try a sample of the in-house pimento cheese(amazing!), and did it all with a smile. She treated us like we were best friends(I wish I could remember her name, I do remember her son works there too).
If you're even in the neighborhood, pop in and try it out.
Everything was great, the food, the atmosphere, the staff, the decor, everything!
We will definitely stop here again.

Always a great meal and experience! The catfish is a 10/10! Love the building and everything about this place.
