Here on business and tried it for the first time off a recommendation of a friend that lives in the area. It did not disappoint!

Food was fabulous! Service was great. I had the Fundidos Mix Plate. And... they have some homemade Mexican ranch dip that they bring with the chips and salsa. Wow! It was soooo good. Need the recipe for sure.

Was a tad bit pricier than your average Mexican restaurant, but well worth it.

The food was great. The service was not! Got coffee. No creamer when I asked. Asked again. Server said they don't have any. I then asked do they have milk? Yes. Got milk. Then had to get my own spoon to stir. What was I supposed to stir it with? My finger? Then she charged us for adult meals for my three grandchildren. Two are 8. One is 3. Really? The only thing I didn't like about the food was the tortillas. They were raw. I ask them to please toast them. Came back a little better. Still not cooked right. We didn't leave a tip. We always tip well,but this time the waitress didn't care about us so we didn't care about her.

Prices are a little higher than other Mexican restaurants in the area, but the food is better than the others. Smaller portions also, but who needs to stuff themselves so I guess the portions are just right.

They have really good food, and the staff is really awesome in regards to service, however do keep in mind that it takes a while to get your order if you get take out, I almost always have to wait for my food to be finished. It's never been a bad meal, it just takes a while.

Service was horrible I understand the guy serving us was new but he could hardly understand English. The order was supposed to be split 2 ways and when I told the cashier what I had he gets the server to verify and then tried to charge me for a margarita that I didn't even get my friend got it he then tries to verify that I'm telling the truth with the server again like I was lying. Sorry but I will not be back. Good luck guys

Very happy! Jasmine, 8u our server was as friendly, as she is beautiful. Food was authentic and delicious! Try the Camerones a la Diabla...awesome spicy burn and chicken chili too!

Always my favorite place to eat in Hartselle. The food is always good. I'm sad that my favorite server jumped ship to the new place across the highway, but the new guy who took care of us was very, very good. My only complaint: we had to ask 3 times to turn the music down. We'd ask, and they'd turn it down; but a minute later it got cranked up again. It was loud, like in a bar loud. But our server, bless him, finally got whoever to keep it to a reasonable decibel level. The price increase was not completely unexpected; it was just a little shocking at first. But the quality of the meal was worth it. It seemed a little slow for a Saturday night, but the upside was we didn't have to wait for a table, and our meal was served quickly. I love this place! It won't matter if 10 other restaurants pop up around it, El Portal #1 will always be my first choice for dining out.
