WORST SMALL BUSINESS EXPERIENCE EVER!
Visiting a small town for the long Memorial Day weekend, with the pure intention of supporting small businesses. Tried to go on 5/26/23, but they were closed. Called to make sure they'd be open on 5/27/23, they said they would, so we went back. Showed up at 11:30am and the open sign was off, so we weren't sure since they open at 11am. We went in and they were open with one table of military men eating. We were super excited because of all the positive reviews, but that went downhill quickly. I was going to buy a chicken plate, but was told they only came with "quarter legs". So I decided I'd just buy a whole chicken (I'm not a leg quarter fan), then I was told that a whole chicken was simply four "quarter legs". What?!?! I was about over it, but still wanted to give them a try. We were then told that the ribs nor chicken was ready yet. I asked how long it would be, and we were told she didn't know because "he" went to the store to get bread, but would be right back. We waited about 20 minutes, and then decided to go run an errand and come back. We were encouraged to go ahead and pay, then come back and pick it up, but still could not be told a timeframe. I'd never pay for food then come back later for an individual order, especially when things already felt off. We were told to call back in 30-45 minutes, but not to wait too long because people start picking up orders quick, and they couldn't hold our food. We never asked for a hold, and it almost felt like manipulation to create a thought that they'd be sold out. We decided to leave to run the errand, and an employee ran outside and told us they only took cash "because the card machine is down", and "don't take too long"... again. I'd decided if we had to go through all of that, I'd go ahead and buy a plate and a whole chicken, though it wasn't really a whole chicken, and have enough to share. The menu had both priced at $10, so I'd leave $20 with this small business. My friend called a while later like we were told, and she was informed that the plates were $15. I was confused, so I called back myself. The gentleman told me plates were $15. I told him that we'd just left and the menu said $10. He simply told me they were now $15 and he hadn't changed it on the menu. I felt some kind of way about this, and it felt kind of scammish, like the price was hiked for Memorial Day weekend. There were no signs in the restaurant notating the price change, and the woman I aide never mentioned this. Sooooo between not having items ready, not being the correct price, not having the card machine operational, not having a timeframe when things WOULD be ready, a "whole chicken" being 4 leg quarters, being encouraged to pay and come back, and being told at least four times not to take too long to come back, there's no way I could support this business... as much as I wanted to. I never tasted the food, but I can't, in good conscience, give a positive review. Absolutely awful experience!
