Mini chimis are a staple and good overall. A safe bet is to go with the fajitas. As far as Mexican food goes, coming from a person who lived very close to the Mexican border, the Mexican food here isn’t comparable. I’d say overall is a 5 out of 10 for the Mexican food specifically.
However, they make up for it with their fun atmosphere! They normally have bands play, and everyone is having fun and some people even get up and dance!

There’s homemade tequila is fantastic! however, for a single shot is extremely expensive, sadly!
However, on the same token, the house margarita comes in a tall glass and isn’t the best. However, if you do some drink menu exploring and ask for a large bowl glass they will give it to you. We have been here over a dozen times, and in general, our service has always been good.

With all these factors considered, I would give this place a four out of five for a Mexican place in Alaska because of what I have mentioned so far, and I have to be realistic,
this is pretty much as far away from the southern border as I can get ????

So bring your friends, enjoy the music, get up out of your chair, and have fun dancing the night away!

Had a great time! The food was yummy, and the service was fantastic! There was live music and the band was incredible! I would definitely recommend Garcia's for a down home, feel good familly restaraunt!

I always have a great meal and great service whenever I come here. Their vegetable fajitas are so good! The veggies it comes with are various, good texture (not too crunchy/not too soft), and plentiful. It includes warmed tortillas, rice, beans, guac, sour cream, and pico. Pretty sure the black beans are free of animal products (since they offer refried beans with the meat dishes, and refried beans usually has lard), I am not sure if the rice has chicken stock in it or not, but I will think to ask next time I'm there and update here. Speaking of their rice and beans, those are just okay for me. Not bad at all, but more on the bland/dry side for me. That being said, every entree I've had has been fantastic and if I had to choose I'd rather the entree be stellar than the sides. I also have included a photo of their shrimp tacos which were delicious! Included plenty of shrimp. Last time I went their service was super fast on a busy Friday night. Their margaritas are delicious too.

Second time here and the food is great again. The music got loud when they switched over to live music but that is to be expected. Service was great at the start of the meal bit we had to wave people down for refills, to go boxes, and our check. We ended up waiting about 15 min for them once we were ready to go.

Recently relocated to AK and Garcia’s was our first stop! Mama was craving a Margarita after a nine day drive! And Garcia’s hit the spot! My 5 sometimes picky kids were there with us and all were pleased with the menu bc there were burgers on the menu! Great service! Great food!

Food: The chimichanga was soggy through and through - too soft even for a good burrito. I was jealous of my friend's order. He had the sampler, and the flautas (I think that's what they're called) were over cooked - fried to a literal crisp.

Service: great service, friendly and attentive.

Atmosphere: this place makes me sad. I was in high school when they first opened. It was the place to go in Eagle River. Now, it looks like it did back then- if you add 38 years to it. The chairs are rickety and you always feel like you're on the verge of collapse. All of our plates were dirty, as were most of the water glasses they brought. Those were nothing compared to the menus - the menus were disgusting! They were sticky and you could feel the layers of what I can only assume used to be Mexican food plastered on them! I was super careful to not touch any part of me until I could go wash my hands.

Back in the 80s, Garcias in Anchorage was a swanky mexican restaurant that I would bring my girlfriend to for a "nice date." When they opened the Eagle River location, it was all the rage and it was ALWAYS hopping. Sadly, I will not be back.

The food isn’t lightning the world on fire. If you’re used to small town middle of the road Mexican restaurants, this is that kind of place. The food is passable and not that bad. Food is all kind of one color and flavor if that makes sense. It’s not horrible if you’re craving Mexican and are nearby but not the kind of place to go out of your way for. The service and the chips and salsa are a highlight though. While nothing special the chips and salsa like any mid tier Mexican restaurant are delightful craveable and the wait staff always comes with a smile.

Lots of character! Great atmosphere and tasty food. The walls are filled with interesting things. Love the Una Mas t shirts! If I lived here, I’d be frequenting this place!
