Awesome little museum right by the airport. You definitely need to set at least 2 hours aside to check it out before you leave Alaska. Right next to Lake Hood, all the float planes flying around add to the atmosphere.

Awesome museum about the history of aviation in Alaska. Multiple displays, dozens of planes, and hundreds of artifacts from the beginning of air travel across the state. Includes a fascinating section on the WWII history, including the Japanese occupation of Attu. Convenient to the Ted Stevens airport, so a long layover provides an excellent excuse to stop by. Be sure and visit the restoration projects underway int he hangar...incredible work being done restoring historic planes.

Great spot to check out. Kids enjoyed it too. Got to check out the restoration shop as well, which was interesting to see

Awesome museum and aircraft restoration location. Learn and witness the history of aviation from the early pioneers to the military arrival and to present day. Make sure you have plenty of time, there's lots to see and do! Don't forget to stop by the gift shop and pick up a few souvenirs from your visit! And a big thank you to the ladies working the front. Both were very nice and friendly!

This museum was really interesting! Lots of old planes and history. There’s even one with a bullet fragment still in it. Phyllis and her team were the best! All of the staff were incredibly knowledgeable and super kind. There was even a cute Mother’s Day event going on. It’s a great before or after the airport.

Staff is extremely friendly and helpful! Large collection of crafts and information. Definitely would recommend if you have time

Super great museum! Absolutely loved the control tower that you can go in and hear ATC. Would have loved to be there when some of the cockpits were open. Also would have liked to know there was a kid play area in the first hangar before walking in there and getting stuck because the six year old wouldn't leave.

Definitely worth a trip. It's a nice way to spend the day looking at restored planes. The transition from propeller to jet engines is amazing.
