First time visiting, we wanted seafood/fish and decided to try this place. Little dated and needing some help aesthetically, but the server at the counter was nice and friendly. Fish was good. Had whole and filets. Wholes could have been a bit bigger for the price, and one one big complaint, NO TAILS. A good crispy fried tail off of a catfish is yummy. Overall, nice place, and would go back again sometime.

(In assigning ratings, I compare similar places with each other according to capabilities.). We stopped in for a mid-afternoon lunch on a weekday. This is a “go to the counter to order & pick up when called” and then eat-in restaurant. The place was very clean and the staff very pleasant & efficient.
We ordered the fried catfish filets w/ baked potatoes & slaw (very good mayo fish slaw). The fish & potato were served hot and were very good. The portions were very sufficient.
All in all, a great catfish lunch!!

Inflation sucks. I loved their catfish since I was a kid. They have the best tartar sauce. But the price you’re having to pay now is just ridiculous and the fish seems smaller. It’s especially annoying that you absolutely have to order a plate instead of ordering pieces of fish by itself. You can, but you’ll be charged the price of a plate.

The fries taste like fish. But the wait is ridiculously LONG. With ONE car in front of me at the drive thru the wait was 20 minutes long! Poor customer service..because how you going to have customers wait 20 minutes and still charge them for just 2 extra tartar sauces. I watched to cars pull up behind me and both drove off.

The food is always consistently outstanding. Service is friendly and hospitable. I love the shrimp and funnel cake fries.

Order a side of okra today and this is what I got for $3.71. Drove back up and asked the drive through cashier and she responded,”yes that’s all you get in a side order ma’am! Never again

To start with swamp johns is going more down hill every time we eat there. Today and every time I get fish tacos the shells are so had and chewy I throw away 3/4’s of it, no spicy slaw no potato chips and this is about a hour after the open! That is it for me!!

Birmingham, take note, THIS is how you do catfish and hush-puppies!! We drove 2.5 hrs to get the best catfish in the state!!

We have loved Swamp John’s since our first volunteer fire department fund raiser in North Alabama.

Tonight we were in the area so we made a the obvious choice. Swamp John’s serves fresh golden brown catfish filets and hush puppies made the right way!

The catfish plate comes with 3 filets, two sides and of course, a big slice of onion and dill pickle!

Fresh, hot and crisp: you couldn’t ask for better. The catfish filet is cooked to perfection and flakes apart when you break it open. The hush puppies are well, the best around. Hot moist cornmeal with just a touch of spice.

Fries and coleslaw are on point! Staff was pleasant and helpful. Restaurant was clean and up to date.

Make the drive to Muscle Shoals, AL and give the best catfish around a try. You won’t be disappointed!
