I too have not been to this wild and beautiful place,however I have just made my first foray to Alaska from the lower 48. I was blown away! Watch the documentary "The Surprise Salmon" from Life on Fire. It is available to watch on PBS. On of the most beautiful nature films made.

Hay más personas que han explora el espacio exterior que el Monumento Nacional Aniakchak, un cráter volcánico desplomado que encierra uno de los territorios más duros de Norteamérica. Los continuos cinturones de nubes que se forman en el furioso mar de Bering invaden el recortado perfil del cráter durante la estación lluviosa, y dan un aspecto fantasmagórico a este mundo perdido de osos gigantes y tundra estéril. Los más aventureros pueden completar la subida ascenso al cráter con un descenso en rafting por las aguas bravas del río Aniakchak, hasta el mar. Necesitarán kayaks plegables, equipo ligero de acampada y mucha valentía. Para llegar hay que volar hasta el pueblecito de Port Heiden y comenzar la marcha de aproximación desde allí.
